If all Muslim dominated Countries around the world could be like The Gambia, the world will certainly be at peace . Gambia is a Country of about 80% Muslim while other religions share the balance of 20%, yet there is tranquility round about the country. No molestation of any kind and nobody cares about your religion or creed where ever you go; what a wonderful and accommodating Country.
Could it be that our God given treasure without measure in Nigeria is our bane and the cause of our deliberate inability to tolerate one another without playing to Religion, tribe or ethnic bigotry? Gambia does not have the variety of natural resources that we have, indeed; the mainstay of their economy is tourism and they project it with utmost care and candour jealously.
The street of Gambia is bountifully replete with foreigners from all over the world moving around day and night without fear of molestation or threat to life. You will find foreigners mostly from other continents moving around with hand bags and wallets strapped to their waist day and night with confidence and unfettered freedom.
No bag snatchers or kidnappers are watching or hiding for a prey; I want to believe that their accommodating attitude was bequeathed to them by their progenitors( not their political leaders) who probably realized that they could only thrive and prosper in an atmosphere of peace and tranquility. How I wish we could trace our steps backs and begin again to regain the trust and peace that we lost due to carelessness and bad leadership.
Another reason for the Gambia’s accommodating posture may perhaps be ascribed to their size that is estimated to stand at about 2.7 million compared with ours of approximately 180 million, but the question I want to ask is of what benefit is the high population in a chaotic environment where human life seems valueless? Yes; the argument in favour of our large population has always been hinged on market potentials but again who are the beneficiaries of these unfettered market? The foreign investors who at their whims and caprices can repatriate their profit and sometimes even with part of their Capital without let or hindrance and who sometimes with impunity latched on to this to impose unskilled laborers on us as highly skilled professionals and turn us to semi-slaves in our own country and in turn make us to serve those that are ordinarily supposed to serve us.
Our leaders need to repent and consider the welfare of the teeming unprotected citizens by making our dear Country reasonably crime free by creating job opportunities for our youths if truly they crave for development.
In the Gambia, the police do not carry baton or wand let alone “AK47” yet everybody walks in atmosphere of assured protection.
Our population and resources seem to be providing negative result rather than a positive yield. This trend must be reversed if we must hear the sound of the cock crow at dawn-apology to Bongos Ikwue“
The Bible says if my people that are called by my name will repent and call on me, I will heal their land” our land needs the divine healing by God, we cannot continue like sheep without shepherd. The rest of the world are moving towards a paperless office, the use of Artificial Intelligence and even setting a target for electrically powered vehicles yet we are still holding on tenaciously to oil wells whose importance may soon wane.
I am advocating that Africans should endeavor to know more of the African continent as a potent catalyst towards mental emancipation and the best legacy that we can bequeath to the generation of Africans yet unborn who will through such scheme get to know the beauty of the continent that our progenitors left behind for us. Please join us to spread this good news that our mantra in SCHOOL OF FORENSIC STUDIES IS THAT “WE TRAIN AFRICANS IN AFRICA”
God bless Nigeria
