Integrity and honesty are twin attributes of man that jointly make corporate governance work perfectly well and propel an organization to grow and achieve the set objectives by those charged with its governance.
These attributes are perhaps among others the crucial ingredients that have seemingly eluded most of our leaders which in turn has plunged Africa in to the abyss of destruction and backwardness even in the mist of stupendous and immeasurable natural resources that have pleased the Almighty God to endow us with. However, one small country in Africa seemed to have human beings that are contented with the little they have or can garner in any given day; the quality which I consider to be the hall mark of honesty and integrity that our leaders lack; the consequence of which is the perennial impoverishment of the Continent.
Gambia is a very small country compared with other Giant African counties. The population of the country is estimated to be about .7 million (one million and seven hundred thousand citizens). The workers there do not compromise integrity or honest behaviour .Workers execute their duties with candor and integrity complemented with cheerfulness and unalloyed smile. You can see dignity of labour at play everywhere and you can go to sleep with you eye closed while your doors are left ajar.
Basing my hypothesis on what I witnessed and experienced in Gambia, it is safe to assert that Integrity and Honesty have not taken a flight out of Africa; though not yet uhuru as there is still the need to have these qualities replicated in other countries in the Continent, but I can positively respond to the rhetoric question asked by the legend Bongos Ikwue in his song .”Will he ever get there; will he ever make it; will he ever hear the sound of the cock crow at dawn’’? Yes with a mindset that craves for a regeneration of heart towards making our Continent congenial, devoid of greed and avarice, Africa will hear the sound of the cock crow at dawn by the grace of the Almighty and ceased to be described as a Sheet hole.
God is ever righteous, truthful and faithful to his promises and I believe in His loving kindness to forgive us our iniquities if we honestly repent from them all.
God bless Africa,
God bless Nigeria.
